Why Hotman Group

Knowing what's wrong isn't enough. It has to get fixed.

A report full of findings. A GRC platform creating more work. An audit passed, but doubts about whether the controls actually work.

We bring business, cybersecurity, technology, and GRC expertise together to understand what matters, do the work, and make sure it keeps working.

Start where you are

You don't have to know exactly what you need. That's part of why we're here.

Some clients have sophisticated security and GRC teams. Others know something needs attention but aren't sure where to begin. Most have a mix of strengths, gaps, and competing priorities.

We meet you where you are. We listen, ask questions, learn how your organization works, and help figure out what actually needs to happen. Your team doesn't have to have every answer before we begin. And we won't automatically sell you the first service you ask about.

Maybe you need an assessment. Maybe you already know the gaps and need help addressing them. Maybe a GRC platform isn't working because the process or ownership behind it needs attention. Understanding the difference is part of our job.

You bring the challenge. We'll help you get clear on the problem and the best way forward.

A different combination of expertise

Business. Cybersecurity. Technology. GRC. You need all four.

Those disciplines are connected in the real world. They should be connected in the advice you receive and the work that gets done.

BUSINESS

We understand what’s at stake.

Costs, operations, customers, revenue, and the tradeoffs leadership has to make. Security decisions have to make sense for the business. Our Managing Partner is a CPA and MBA, so we bring financial and business judgment to the discussion.

CYBERSECURITY

We know what actually protects you.

We look past policies and checkboxes to the risks, security controls, and whether the protections are really working.

TECHNOLOGY

Know what technology can and can't solve.

Buying a tool is often the easy part. We see companies never get much past the first use case. We know the technology, and we know someone still has to set it up, connect the work, and keep it going.

GRC

We know how to run the program.

Frameworks, control owners, evidence, findings, remediation, and audits all have to work together. We help build that into day-to-day operations.

It's the combination that matters. We don't have to stop at the line between business, security, technology, and GRC. We know how those pieces affect one another and what it takes to get the work done.

What backs up our approach

Experience you can check.

Passing the audit is a milestone, not the mission.

Plenty of firms say they understand the whole picture. Here's what lets us actually connect it for you.

HG's Managing Partner Cheri Hotman brings CPA, MBA, CCISO, CISSP, and CMMC CCP credentials to cybersecurity and GRC leadership. That combination helps us examine evidence with an auditor's eye while weighing cybersecurity decisions against business risk, cost, and what the organization can sustain. Our firm has been doing this work since 2016.

We work in the technology, too. HG has implemented and improved GRC platforms including Hyperproof, StandardFusion, and Conveyor. We understand the difference between buying software and building an operating program inside it: workflows, control ownership, evidence, issue management, integrations, and ongoing use.

We're a certified woman-owned small business (WOSB). That matters if your organization has supplier diversity or small-business subcontracting goals.

More than advice

We don't hand you a report and wish you luck.

An assessment can tell you what's missing. That's useful. But what happens next is what changes the risk.

Depending on what the situation requires, HG can help diagnose the issue, design the approach, build or improve the program, address gaps, implement or optimize GRC technology, validate progress, and support ongoing operations. We work alongside your team to fix what we can, help them address what only they can, and put the ownership and oversight in place to sustain it.

We work with your people, processes, controls, and systems. The goal isn't simply to finish our deliverable. It's to leave you with something that works better.

01

Figure out what's really going on.

Go beyond what the report or the tool says. Understand the problem, what is already working, and what actually matters.

02

Get the work done.

Fix what we can. Work with your team on what they need to own. Keep things moving instead of handing you another list.

03

Don't let it fall apart again.

Put ownership, repeatable processes, evidence, and follow-through in place so the next audit doesn't start another scramble.

The work should speak for itself. Here are results from three client engagements.
GRC technology + actual operations20+ tools consolidated. 95% evidence reuse.

For Trintech, HG helped bring controls and workflows together in StandardFusion. The program supported 33% more audit volume without adding resources.

Long-term operating capacity400+ controls. Five frameworks.

HG has supported an organization for nearly five years, operating and maturing its program while internal GRC headcount remained flat.

Less compliance theaterAbout two-thirds fewer mapped controls.

For a large SaaS company, HG challenged an overly complicated SOX, SOC 1 and SOC 2 control model and reduced duplicated work.

“Hotman Group and StandardFusion helped us move from manual processes to a system that drives itself.”

Jerry Koshy, Director of Compliance and Audit, Trintech

“What has been most valuable for us is that they do more than tell us what needs to be done.”

Think beyond the next audit

We think about who has to live with this after the project ends.

This work never really ends. Risks change. Technology changes. Requirements change. People move on. The program has to keep up.

That's why sustainability isn't something we tack on at the end. We think about it from the start, including who will own the work, what technology can support it, where effort can be reused, and how anyone will know that the controls and processes still work.

If the program only works while consultants are in the room, it doesn't work. If it creates a mountain of manual work, depends on one person's memory, or sends everyone into panic before each audit, we need to question the design.

Work with what you have.

You probably don't need to start over. Keep what works, understand what does not, and fix what is worth fixing.

The tool won't do the work for you.

It's easier to buy software than do the hard work of setting it up, defining who owns what, getting people to use it, and going beyond the first use case. We help with that part.

Make sure it's real.

A policy isn't a process. A tool isn't a program. A closed ticket doesn't mean the risk is gone. We check.

Boutique on purpose

We choose quality and relationships over volume.

We'd rather do the right work with the right people than chase every opportunity.

We're boutique because we want to be. We want to know our clients, do excellent work, and have people on our team who take pride in getting it right.

Personal attention. A real team.

You get senior involvement and a coordinated team with the expertise to do the work, not a single consultant trying to cover everything.

We'll tell you what we think.

If you're buying the wrong tool, solving the wrong problem, or doing work you don't need, we'll say so.

We care who we work with.

You don't need to have all the answers. You do need to care about protecting the organization and be willing to work toward getting it right.

A philosophy, not a sales pitch

The purpose of cybersecurity is protection.

That belief shaped Hotman Group, and it's why our Managing Partner Cheri Hotman wrote Rebuilding Cybersecurity.

Security and compliance programs should reduce meaningful risk, protect the organization, build trust, and support its ability to do business. Frameworks, technology, documentation, and audits matter, but they're meant to support that purpose, not replace it.

That's the standard we bring to our client relationships and our own work.

Let's start with your challenge

The hard part isn't finding information. It's getting the work done.

Most organizations aren't short on reports, requirements, or advice. They're short on time, people, or the specific expertise to turn it all into something that works. That's where we come in.
